NEIL Harris felt Millwall’s display against West Brom showed they are more than just a “long-ball” team.
The Lions dominated the promotion-chasing Baggies to win through goals from Ryan Tunnicliffe and an Ahmed Hegazi own goal.
Jay Rodriguez missed a penalty for West Brom when it was 1-0 to Millwall.
“We’re still tagged as a long-ball team that gets the ball forward, but I think today we showed some real composure and quality and some of the moves leading up to chances were outstanding,” Harris said.
“That’s four games we’ve done that. Birmingham away, [Brighton] at home in the cup and Leeds last week when we were very good but Leeds were better than us in the end.
“Today I thought we dominated large parts of the game and hugely deserved the win, without a shadow of a doubt. We had a little bit of fortune along the way, which is much needed at this stage of the season, with the two goals and the missed penalty.”
Ben Thompson set up Millwall’s second goal, as the Lions stayed above Rotherham, who defeated Nottingham Forest 2-1.
“I thought Thommo was excellent, I thought the team was excellent,” Harris said. “Thommo’s energy, the positions he took up were really good.
“Since he’s come back from Portsmouth he’s been a breath of fresh air. We really missed him, not just on the pitch, but at the training ground, in the dressing room. He’s a real character. We’ve got some real characters.
“Ben is still learning all the time. We felt he needed to go and have a different voice, a different learning experience. I was really fortunate when Kenny [Jackett] and Joe [Gallen] wanted to take him because they’re good coaches and good guys.
“The change of formation that we’re playing certainly suits Ben, the 4-2-3-1, it gives him freedom to play. His energy is infectious.
“I thought Lee Gregory deserved a goal, he should have scored. His work ethic was outstanding.
“Alongside Ben I thought Jed [Walllace] and Marsh [Ben Marshall] both grew into the game and were really creative.”
