GARY Rowett is looking forward to seeing “great guy” Neil Harris again as Millwall travel to Gillingham for a friendly.
Lions legend Harris will be in the opposition dugout having left The Den in 2019.
He was replaced by Rowett who is now entering his fifth season in charge of Millwall.
Both managers worked closely with John Berylson, with today’s match being the first match in front of fans since his death at the age of 70.
Yesterday James Berylson, John’s son, was announced as the new chairman of the club.
Rowett told NewsAtDen: “Neil’s a great guy. Everyone’s got a lot of time for him here. When I got the job originally, I spoke to Neil quite a lot about it and he was incredibly helpful.
“I’m sure recent events will have touched a lot of people at Gillingham, because there’s a lot of people there with a link to [Millwall] and of course Neil had a great relationship with the chairman for a long time.
“I think every game at the moment everyone wants to pay their respects to John and his family. I think the game’s the game and once kick-off starts it just becomes a pre-season game like it would normally but hopefully both sets of fans will want to turn up and share their respects just like Bromley did.”
The game at Priestfield offers supporters the chance to see their new signings in Millwall shirts for the first time.
Kevin Nisbet was signed from Hibernian in June before Joe Bryan arrived on a free transfer after his contract with Fulham expired.
One player fans may not see today is Tyler Burey after Rowett admitted he was “reluctant” to play the winger who is set to move on from the club this summer.
