NEIL Harris insists Millwall can have a go at Leeds United and upset the odds at Elland Road today.
Daniel Farke’s side are in tremendous form and will know they can go top of the Championship with victory if they dispatch their old foes.
But funny things can happen when Millwall and Leeds meet and Harris will have the memory of the stunning 4-3 win he engineered in 2018 fresh in his mind as he enters Elland Road today.
The former striker also memorably scored against the Yorkshire side in the 2009 League One play-off semi-final first leg at The Den before Jimmy Abdou finished off the job in the second leg.
Harris remains remains unbeaten in the four games since he returned to The Den and has registered wins over Southampton, Watford and Birmingham City.
Before the game, the 46-year-old head coach said: “I’ve represented the club in a lot of [these games], player and manager. They’re very enjoyable.
“This is going to be difficult as it’s ever been. It’s going to be as difficult as the Leeds team that were top of the league when we won there five years ago. As difficult as the Leeds team I was victorious against as a player in the play-offs.
“It’s going to be a tough challenge but we’re going to enjoy it. We are the underdog going into this game and that’s when we’re at our best.
“They’ve got an excellent home record this season and they’re there to be shot at and that’s what we’re going to do.”
As usual, plenty of research has gone into the opposition as Harris and his coach staff try to detect any weaknesses in a formidable, promotion-chasing Leeds side.
The Millwall boss said: “It’s modern day football, we have to be diligent with our approach. We have a team of analysts to look at the opponent.
“I watched them myself in their last three fixtures and you look for trends in how they play with the ball and play against the ball and then we build a plan off that. What Leeds have is an unpredictability and freedom to their play and they have very, very good players.
“We know the task ahead but we also know where we’re at as a team and what a good space we’re in. So we have a huge thought process to the opponent and being respectful to them on their home ground but then also focusing on what’s made us get better over the last four games and enabled us to pick the points up.”
