SE1 theatres have cancelled performances because of coronavirus while an SE5 gallery has completely closed its doors until further notice.

The Old Vic on The Cut has stopped the remaining two weeks of Endgame, starring Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe as well as Alan Cummings.

In a statement, the world-famous arts institution said it was “increasingly impractical to sustain business as usual” in light of the pandemic.

All other performances are currently planned to go ahead as normal.

The Old Vic urged people with tickets not to demand a full refund because it would “financially devastating for us.” The Old Vic is not for profit.

Nearby Young Vic has also cancelled all remaining performances of Nora: A Doll’s House after a member of the company self-isolated.

The theatre’s building and box office remain open as normal.

“The health and wellbeing of our audiences and staff will always be our priority,” said the theatre.

It comes after Camberwell’s South London Gallery announced yesterday that it would be closing its doors until further notice because of COVID-19.

The contemporary art gallery on Peckham Road put up a notice on its entrance announcing its closure for the foreseeable.

“In response to increasing concerns relating to the spread of COVID-19 (or Coronavirus), the South London Gallery has taken the decision to close its galleries, events and education activities until further notice,” it said.

Its offices are temporarily open today but will also close. Crane’s Kitchen, the on-site café at the gallery remains open.
