MATIJA Sarkic enjoyed The Den’s rousing atmosphere against Watford – even if it affected his communication with his teammates.
Whether due to the morale-boosting win over Southampton, a continuation of the brilliant atmosphere from the away end at St Mary’s, the return of Neil Harris to the touchline or a combination of all three, The Den was a hive of noise for most of the game against the Hornets.
Zian Flemming’s early goal proved to be enough for the win in a match where Sarkic did not have much to do in the Millwall goal.
And the keeper, 26, enjoyed the atmosphere inside the stadium even if it had some unintended drawbacks.
Asked if the noise helped the players, he said: “Yeah definitely. But sometimes it doesn’t help because I can’t speak to my players because it’s a bit loud! But definitely we love it and we just want more of it.
“It’s quite imposing and intimidating when the stadium is loud and it just gives us that little kick that helps when everyone is together and we’re winning and we have to defend our goal. It just helps that much more.”
The win saw Sarkic keep his first clean sheet since New Year’s Day, just a week after he produced the most important save of his Millwall career in the final minutes of the 2-1 win at Southampton.
Asked about his confidence growing, he said: “When you do have a good performance, you’re confident and things tend to be a little bit easier. Confidence is always massive, it helps you.
“We’ve had two good results, everyone’s confidence is going to be a bit better so we just need to keep building on that.”
Millwall weren’t the only winners on Saturday with relegation rivals Queens Park Rangers, Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday all winning while Huddersfield Town scrapped to a draw against Leeds United.
On the relegation dogfight, Sarkic said: “I think the only thing we can do is just focus on our results and focus on our games. Don’t want to look at the table too much and overthink things. If we just focus on ourselves and make sure we get the results, it’s in our hands.”
