STEVE Morison believes Norwich City’s increased allocation at The Den this Saturday will bring out the best in Millwall fans.
Morison revealed this week he has been receiving text messages from people connected to his former club boasting about their ticket sales.
The Canaries, who are top of the Championship, have been allocated part of the bottom tier of the away end – normally closed to away fans – and have sold over 3,000 tickets.
Norwich signed Morison from Millwall for £2.8million in 2011, and he has followed them this season in their bid to return to the Premier League.
“They have done brilliant,” Morison said. “Every time you see them they’re fantastic.
“I think they have sold out both tiers as a few people like to tell me. They’re really proud of themselves for doing that. I don’t know why they want to text me and tell me about it, I don’t really care. They feel like they want to tell me about it, so I’m really pleased for them.
“Saturday will be a tough game against a very, very good team. Hopefully we can do what we do when the odds are against us.
“[Millwall fans] will love it, it will be good,”
Morison set up Shaun Hutchinson’s goal against Hull City on Tuesday night but Millwall missed the chance to go seven points clear of the bottom three with their 2-1 defeat.
“We didn’t do enough, did we? We did alright,” Morison continued. “I would rather lose playing like that than we did first half on Saturday [against Preston]. It’s a frustrating one, but we will take the positives – it was a better performance, we had the better chances. We just need to stop giving sloppy goals away.
“It’s just one of those things. Saturday was maybe a step too far for a few of the lads, and the gaffer held his hands up on that. It’s frustrating, you don’t like conceding goals after being so good last year at noughts and ones. We have been at that since Christmas, so it’s a couple of frustrating results, but we have got a good one Saturday.
“Obviously it’s frustrating, we could have been seven points clear, but we are still four clear. One of those teams or two of those teams have got to win back-to-back games, which I don’t think they have done all year, so we need to keep plugging away.
“You know what this football club is like – we will end up beating Norwich on Saturday.”
Millwall saw their defensive resources further stretched on Tuesday night, with Murray Wallace going off injured and full-backs Conor McLaughlin and James Meredith already out.
Mahlon Romeo’s illness meant boss Neil Harris played Ryan Leonard at right-back.
Morison said: “We adapted kind of well. We ended up getting the equaliser, but it’s just that sucker-punch just before half-time that kills us a little bit because I think second half we were the better team. You would have liked to have gone in at 1-1 and possibly come out and gone and won the game.
“We’ve got a small squad. You look at the squad lists on the back of these [match] programmes, it’s ridiculous what some of these clubs have got. It is tough, tough on our boys. You can see some of them out there are absolutely knackered. They’re going to enjoy the next couple of days resting and then we come back in Thursday and get ready for Saturday. It has been tough – Wednesday to Saturday and then Saturday to Tuesday is a tough old slog. Unfortunately we have only managed to win one. We will dust ourselves down and go again.”
Morison also had a dig for those who say, in the last year of his contract, his time at the club is coming to an end.
“I had a hand in the goal, but apparently I’m finished? Everyone can have their own opinion but it’s only one person’s opinion that matters at this football club and that’s the manager’s.”
