GARY Rowett expects Millwall’s reunion with George Long to be “pretty friendly” as the keeper faces the side he left only three days ago.
The 29-year-old slipped down the pecking order after the arrival of Matija Sarkic from Wolverhampton Wanderers and was keen to get first team football.
He will now battle for the no.1 spot with Norwich’s Angus Gunn, who is currently first choice.
The first team Long will face after leaving The Den will contain some familiar faces as Millwall arrive in Norfolk for today’s lunchtime kick-off.
Lions boss Rowett said: “At the end of the day, you can’t choose where the opportunity lies [for transfers] and as we spoke about before, Longy’s situation meant that if someone came for him at that sort of level, it would be unfair for us say ‘you’re not our number one keeper but we’re also not letting you go’.
“So I think it was fair to him and a brilliant opportunity for him. Usually you don’t see a player that has left the club quite so soon but he’s loyalty now lies with Norwich, our loyalty lies with Millwall.
“So it’s a pretty easy situation but I’m sure we’ll say hello to him and all will be pretty friendly.”
