MILLWALL boss Neil Harris is set to give a number of fringe players the chance to impress against Gillingham in the first round of the EFL Cup at The Den on Tuesday evening.
Byron Webster could feature in a senior competitive game for the first time since last September, and summer signings Ben Amos, Murray Wallace and Jiri Skalak will hope to make their first starts.
“I’m not exactly sure who will play,” Lions boss Neil Harris said this morning. “We’ll balance the side between people who need minutes and deserve the opportunity on the back of a good pre-season and being unlucky not to be in the team at the start of the season, and the fact that we really want to win the game.
“I won’t be playing any of the young lads, it will be a senior squad. I’ll certainly be picking a team and a bench that’s capable of winning the game.
“It’s not lost on me there’s a rivalry with Gillingham, the games home and away also have good atmospheres. We don’t expect a huge crowd but there will be a good atmosphere.
“It’ll be competitive. Having seen Gillingham in their opening two games they are a competitive side and like to get players forward, so it’ll be an open game.
“I want to make it through.”
Gillingham are managed by former Millwall striker Steve Lovell, and are fourth in League One after wins over Accrington Stanley and Burton Albion in their first two games.
