DUNCAN WATMORE will have a scan on his knee after picking up a knock in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Hull City.
The 29-year-old opened the scoring but appeared in discomfort after hitting the advertising hoardings during his goal celebrations.
Gary Rowett revealed after the match that the moment may have aggravated an issue that was picked up in the pre-game warm-up.
Watmore was hooked off at half-time and now Millwall face a wait to see what the scan results reveal about his knee.
Following the match, Rowett said: “He was touch and go before the game. I think he felt something in the warm-up, he had to get strapped up and I nearly didn’t start him. But obviously at that point it would have classed as a substitution or whatever so I didn’t want to change it that late. And also he really felt it or re-injured it in the celebration. So yeah, probably should have taken him off at that point.
“I think it’s always difficult when you’re looking at a player saying ‘are you okay?’ and he sort of wants to stay on. I think that’s admirable but I think there’s also an element of you need to be able to run for the team. I think he just got through the first half but meant I just decided to take him off anyway just because I didn’t think he was quite alright.”
Kevin Nisbet also picked up a hamstring injury in the match against Hull and will now miss Scotland’s clash with Spain in their next European Championship 2024 qualifying game.
It is not yet known how serious the issue is.
Nisbet hurt his ankle last month against Rotherham United and, despite initial fears, only missed one game.
