A Met Police officer is due in court charged with common assault over the arrest of a man in Elephant and Castle last year.
Police Constable Luke Wenham, who is attached to the Central South Basic Command Unit, which covers Southwark and Lambeth boroughs, will attend Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 1.
He faces two charges of common assault relating to the incident at a residential address in Albert Barnes House, on August 17, 2022, which prompted an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.
On that date, a man is said to have scaled the 15-storey residential block in Elephant and Castle while trying to evade police.
The man eventually climbed down from the side of the building, in Meadow Row, after a standoff that lasted several hours.
PC Wenham has been placed on restricted duties.
