KAMARL Grant had a Bromley debut to forget as he put the ball into his own net against Hartlepool United.
The centre-back, who left for the National League side on loan on transfer deadline day, would have been hoping to have a nice, quiet afternoon after being thrown straight into the side.
But instead he would end up playing a major role in the game swinging against his new club.
Bromley took the lead through Michael Cheek but Hartlepool’s Emmanuel Dieseruvwe equalised after 27 minutes.
It was then just as the clock hit the hour mark in the second half that Grant’s unfortunate moment arrived. Hartlepool’s Joe Grey played the ball across the box and Millwall’s under-21 captain Grant couldn’t sort out his feet in time, knocking the ball into his own net.
The 21-year-old immediately put his head in hands and collapsed to the ground in disappointment.
The day could have been so different too with Grant almost scoring nine minutes earlier as he threw himself at a cross and headed it just wide.
He should take some inspiration from fellow Millwall loanee Dillon Addai. The young goalkeeper was sent off on his debut for Isthmian League side Erith & Belvedere last month but this week had his loan extended by 28 days.
Elsewhere, there was late heartbreak for Nino Adom-Malaki and Sutton United. The League Two side are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the football league and almost grabbed a crucial three points against Doncaster Rovers, the side directly above them.
Craig Eastmond struck after 73 minutes – a minute before Adom-Malaki was subbed off – but a penalty in the 96th minute converted by Joe Ironside saw Doncaster grab a point.
Had Sutton held on, they would have been four points away from safety but the late Doncaster goal means the gap between the two teams remains at seven.
And the bad news continued for Millwall youngsters as Alex Mitchell was sent for Lincoln City.
The Imps finally ended their winless run as Reeco Hackett scored in the second half to secure a 1-0 win at Burton Albion.
But they had to do much of the heavy-lifting without Mitchell who had been dismissed inside half an hour after picking up two yellow cards in six minutes.
His second yellow came after he clung onto the shirt of Crystal Palace loanee Ademola Ola-Adebomi.
It marks the second sending off in Mitchell’s senior career after was also shown red while on loan at St Johnstone in 2022.
